For Parents

If you are visiting this site, it is likely that you or someone you care about is parenting while living with a serious illness. Parenting well is always challenging, but it is even more complicated when dealing with potentially taxing physical and emotional symptoms, as well as the demands of medical treatment. Here we hope to provide you with knowledge and practical tips to guide you in helping the children you love stay on track and feel secure.

This section of our site is written as if the reader is the parent who is ill. This approach is intended to lend clarity to these pages, but we hope that many readers will be spouses, co-parents, siblings, friends, and other caring adults. If you are taking the time to become educated about these important issues, the children in your lives are especially lucky to have you in theirs.

If you would like to learn more about the guidance and principles discussed here, you will find this information in more elaborate form in the book Raising an Emotionally Healthy Child When a Parent Is Sick. This book represents the collective experience and wisdom of the Marjorie E. Korff PACT clinical team.
